Armando Galarraga

On June 2, 2010, the family gathered around the TV to watch Detroit Tigers' history but the history that was written was one that we had not hoped for. As Armando Galarraga approached the final out of his near perfect game, all I could think of was April 15, 1983. This was the date that Milt Wilcox came within one out of a perfect game for the Tigers. Unlike Wilcox, Galarraga was out right robbed. The sportsmanship that followed over the next few days eased the pain of the error and truly showed the class of Armando Galarraga. Today's piece is titled Galarraga.

Last New Music Tuesday for June 20ten

There are a few new releases out today worthy of taking note of. One of those releases is "Night Work" by the Scissor Sisters. The short samples of the album I listened to on iTunes sound great & I'm looking forward to hearing the entire album.

Finally got to listen to "Brothers" by the Black Keys the other day & I must say it was a let down. The album starts out great with tracks like "Everlasting Light," "Next Girl" & "Tighten Up" but quickly looses steam & just kinda putters out. The album feels rushed (amongst solo releases & Blakroc, both of which were better albums) and slapped together with leftover tracks from Attack & Release. The tracks that are good are REALLY good (which justify my number of stars) but the tracks that are left are tired. I had high hopes for this release after "Attack & Release" but "Brothers" just doesn't come close. *** Out of **** Peace.

New Music Tuesday

The computer situation has finally been resolved!!!! And things will be up and running again this week (art wise).

This week I want to tell you about some new music that came out actually a few month's ago. Off and on over the past few month's I have been hearing these great songs and wondering out loud "who is this awesome artist?" Well the answer is Janelle Monáe and her new release is fantastic! The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III) is jam packed with pop, funk, soul, dance, art rock, indie rock and punk. At times she reminds me of "Sign ☮ the Times" Prince and at other times she reminds me of "Say It Loud — I'm Black and I'm Proud" James Brown. She is so young and so good it's just not right! Hands down The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III) is one of the strongest and most creative releases of the year. Not a weak track on this release and I refuse to recommend a single track because each track has it's own personality. Awesome release, go pick it up now! **** 1/2 out of *****

Art Update & New Music

Not much new happening on all fronts this afternoon. Art projects have been on hold the last few weeks because of computer issues. We hope to resolve these problems VERY soon.

Music wise it's also a slow week. I did stumble across an artist named Janelle Monáe who I am intrigued with. More on her very soon.

PEACE & until later.

New Music Tuesday

Trent Reznor is one of the most important artist of the past 25 years. This is such an understatement. A understatement in that he is without a doubt in the top 5 artist of the past 25 years. The guy is a genius without question and has influenced so many artist over his career. So this takes us to the new chapter in his long career, How To Destroy Angels. A few weeks ago I wrote about Trent's new band with Alan Moulder & former West Indian Girl front-woman Mariqueen Maandig (Trent's wife) on vocals. The first single, "A Drowning" was epic & now we have the entire 6 song EP for a free download at H2DA's website. The EP is fantastic! Trent's signature sound along Moulder's top notch production skills all mixed with Mariqueen's lush vocals are a perfect combo for this release. The only downside to the release is that as soon as the next track starts you expect to hear Trent belt out a few notes on vocals but to the dismay of NIN fans everywhere this never happens. I know that Pitchfork and other indie folks will harp on the fact that the vocals and the music don't mix or they will pick things apart just to be indie. But there is no need to overanalyze here, this album is what it is and it's a solid release. I can not wait for the full album. Download the release now if you like NIN, you will not be disappointed. "BBB" is the best track by far and I am not stating in anyway that the rest of the tracks are weak (because they are not). **** out of *****
